Cycle Reebok is an exhilarating and
new way to exercise and burn fat. The Cycle Reebok
spinning classes are an excellent cardiovascular workout and since
the Reebok Studio bikes are adjustable they are great for
beginning to advanced levels. If you can ride a bike you can
master Cycle Reebok spinning! For our current schedule or additional information

This is open play time for players with a basic
understanding of the skills, strategies and rules of

These evaluations assess your fitness level in the following areas: resting heart rate, blood pressure, body composition, Cardio respiratory fitness, abdominal strength and endurance, upper body strength and endurance, and lower back and hamstring flexibility. This information allows the trainer to work most effectively with you in your personal fitness program. Appointments can be made at the Member Services desk. Boxing Studio
Boxing rides the fine line between sports and martial arts. Workout programs
involving boxing, kickboxing and other martial arts are becoming more and more
mainstream in the 90s. Boxerobics, Cardio-kickboxing, Aeroboxing and Boxing for
fitness classes are the latest additions to today's health club. The Central YMCA
currently has two boxing bags, as well as other boxing equipment for your individual use.
Improve your mental, physical, and emotional well-
being with a professional sports massage. The
Central YMCA offers a variety of massage styles by
certified and licensed massage therapists.12-week Personal Fitness Program
A slow, flowing, relaxing approach to exercise that will help improve your strength, endurance, balance, and flexibility. This Eastern-based series of movements is both calming and centering. For additional information, contact the Senior Coordinator at ext. 529.
Kickboxing
Kick, punch, box and sweat yourself into shape.
Learn to defend yourself in the process too. One of
our most popular programs, this energetic class is
taught by Dante Jeavon. New sessions begin the

FOR ADULTS...
Make swimming a part of your workout. Our beginner/intermediate swim program is for those adults interested in learning and practicing the front crawl, backstroke, water survival skills, and stroke technique. As a courtesy to our members, the Central YMCA typically offers free blood pressure screening once a month in our lobby. You can also have your blood pressure taken during your own personal fitness evaluation. For additional information, contact the Health & Fitness Director at ext. 526.
These courses will provide you with the knowledge and
the skills necessary in an emergency to call for help, to help keep
someone alive, to reduce pain, and to minimize the consequences of
injury or sudden illness until professional medical help arrives.
Each course also includes information on the prevention of injury
and illness, with a focus on personal safety.
BACKYoga, which means “union” or “harmony” is both a philosophical system and a science whose goal is the attainment of self-awareness. We offer a variety of yoga classes to accommodate the increasing popularity of this form of fitness. Hatha yoga uses and array of postures, movements and unique breathing techniques to take each joint in the body through its full range of motion.

Flow yoga and power yoga are a combination of invigorating flow yoga poses, relaxation, and stretching. These classes are taught by Howard VanEs.

We offer a variety of step classes at the Central
YMCA, including Basic Step, Basic Step Riser,
Basic Step & Tone, Intermediate Step, Advanced

Everyone has it, and some more than others. Health professionals
recommend that men maintain a level of body fat no more than 23% and women no more than
27%. We'll help you maintain these by offering our members free screening once a
month. For additional information, contact

This class features a rhythmic warm up followed by
isolation of each muscle group to strengthen , tone,
and condition. Abs are included. All classes are

YCT (YMCA Cardiac Therapy) is a unique program designed for persons recovering from heart disease. Coordinated by a licensed nurse, the program incorporates exercise, diet, and emotional support for participants and their partners. Our 3-lane, heated 25 meter pool is home to a variety of water activities. Certified lifeguards are present at all times. Convenient men’s and women’s changing areas are right off the pool deck. Group and private lessons are available, as is a Master’s swim team. Historically significant, it is one of the few deep water pools found in fitness centers in San Francisco.

Home to basketball, badminton, and volleyball, our full-court gym hosts a variety of structured activities as well as open times. Basketballs and rackets are available at no charge from the Member Services Desk.
We offer over 45 aerobic classes a week, all taught
by certified instructors and all FREE with your
membership. They are offered at various times and
days, beginning at 6:45 a.m. and wrapping up at
7:45 p.m. There’s sure to be at least one class that
matches your fitness needs and your schedule.
What better way to wrap up your workout or unwind than taking a nice, hot sauna? We have three state of the art saunas: two for men and one for women.
Two steam rooms are available for male members.
Steam is an effective way to soothe sore muscles
after a workout, or just relax before you head home.

The Golden Gate Center is a men’s separate, secure
locker room whose amenities include laundry
service for workout attire, color TV, lunge area, full
length permanent lockers, shower, steam, sauna,
towel service, and a private workout area.
They're not treadmills, they're not stairmasters…. they are the best of both. These great new cardio machines will guarantee a good sweat and a great workout. Nautilus equipment has been around for many years and even as we’ve added new brands, we listened to our members who still enjoy using Nautilus. Our second-floor workout areas boasts a complete line of Nautilus machines.
BACKIf you like to combine running with your workout, but don’t enjoy treadmills, take a spin on our indoor track. Situated above the gymnasium, it’s the perfect place to run on the those cold, rainy days in winter.
Indoor Walking Track

Just 20 minutes of walking per day at a moderate pace has been shown to significantly reduce your
risk of cardiovascular disease.Our indoor walking track is
ideal for warming up or warming down.

Tired of trying to stretch in crowded corners? At Central, we have a large, open stretching area for stretching, yoga poses, and even acrobatics. It's a spacious area which allows you to really stretch out before or after your workout.
More than any other single factor, muscle loss
is responsible for the diminished vitality we associate with getting
older. Strengthening exercise is important for everyone as they age,
but it's especially important for women. The Central Y is well aware of
this and boasts one of the best kept fitness secrets in the city! Our
Women’s Health Center has lockers, showers,
sauna, as well as a private, women’s only workout
area.

Our fleet of treadmills provide you one of the most effective means for burning calories. There's hardly ever a wait and our state-of-the-art machines provide you with readings of your heart rate, calories burned, and distance, as well as a variety of simulated courses.
Cybex is one of the latest series of machines to
reflect new technology which enhances your
workout. These easy to use machines allow a
greater range of motion, forcing you to use more
muscles than some traditional equipment lines.
They are designed to adjust to all body types and
sizes. One of our most popular facilities.

For those of you who like to combine a serious cardio workout with upper body development, we have several rowers that will do the job.
If you like to combine upper and lower body
conditioning with aerobic training, Nordic-Trac is
your answer. These machines copy the movements
of cross country skiing, providing you with a low-
impact, yet highly effective, workout.
Racquetball is generally played by 2 or 4 players. When played by 2, it's called singles and played by 4, doubles. Another variation of the game is played by 3 and called cutthroat. The game is going strong at the Central YMCA. Court reservations and equipment are free of charge.
The Stairmaster gives a great lower-body workout and allows you to
work at various levels of intensity. So, when you're ready to climb, hop on to one
of ours which will really give your heart and lungs a workout!
